History of Chain of Rocks
Chain of Rocks was first planned out in the 1830s. It got its name from a special rock formation. This formation was found near where the town was first built. A post office opened in Chain of Rocks in 1869. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. The post office stayed open until 1907.
Geography and Location
Chain of Rocks is named after a cool natural feature. This feature is a group of rocks that stick out in the Cuivre River. This river is north of St. Louis. These rocks form a "chain" right across the river. The village itself is quite small. It covers an area of about 0.44 square kilometers (0.17 square miles). All of this area is land.
