The Chalcorana chalconota is a type of "true frog" that belongs to the Ranidae family. You might also hear it called the Schlegel's frog or copper-cheeked frog. This frog lives only in Indonesia. You can find it mainly on islands like southern Sumatra, Java, and Bali.

Meet the Copper-Cheeked Frog!
These frogs are quite big! Adult male Chalcorana chalconota frogs are about 34 to 50 millimeters (1.3 to 2 inches) long. Females are even larger. They measure about 49 to 73 millimeters (1.9 to 2.9 inches) from their snout to their rear end. Their legs are a bit short for their body size.
Their snout (nose area) sticks out a little. You can easily see their tympanum, which is like their eardrum. It looks slightly sunken in. The tips of their fingers are much wider than the rest of their fingers.
Most of these frogs are green. Some might have black spots on their back. Their back legs can have dark stripes across them. Females have bumpy skin on their back. Males have many tiny, fine spines. Males also have special glands on their shoulders that stick out.
Where Do These Frogs Live?
Chalcorana chalconota frogs like to live near small streams in lowland forests. But you can also find them away from streams. They live in forests and in higher areas, up to 1571 meters (about 5,154 feet) above sea level.
They can live in both natural forests and forests that have been changed by people. You might even find them in places where people live. They also live in farms and in ponds that might have trash in them.
How They Raise Their Young
These frogs lay their eggs in many different water spots. They use calm pools next to forest streams. They also use temporary ponds at the edge of forests. You can find their eggs in irrigation channels and ditches in rice fields too.
Are They Safe?
The Chalcorana chalconota is a common frog species. There are no big threats to them right now. They live in several protected areas. This helps keep them safe.
