Chambers Lodge was a special old resort and a post office in Placer County, California. It was located right on the edge of Lake Tahoe, about 1.25 miles (2 km) southeast of a town called Homewood. The lodge was quite high up, at 6,237 feet (1,901 meters) above sea level.

This lodge was one of the very first places built for fun and relaxation around Lake Tahoe. It first opened its doors in 1854. Over the years, many different people owned it. Sadly, the lodge was taken down in 1970. Now, the spot where it once stood is home to vacation houses.

Discovering Chambers Lodge

Chambers Lodge was a well-known place for people to visit and enjoy the beauty of Lake Tahoe. It was considered an "unincorporated community." This means it was a settlement that didn't have its own local government, but it was still a recognized place.

A Look Back in Time

The history of Chambers Lodge goes all the way back to 1854. It quickly became a popular spot for visitors looking to relax by the lake. People would come to stay at the lodge and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery.

Over time, the lodge changed hands many times. Each new owner added their own touch to the place. However, by 1970, the old lodge was taken down. Today, the area is still a popular vacation spot, but with modern homes instead of the historic lodge.

How it Got its Name

The area around Chambers Lodge had a post office that opened in 1884. It was first called the McKinney post office. This name honored John McKinney, who settled in that area in 1864.

Later, in 1928, the post office changed its name to Chambers Lodge. This new name was chosen to honor David H. Chambers. He was the person who built a new lodge at the site in 1928. The post office stayed open under the Chambers Lodge name until it finally closed in 1959.
