Homewood is a small community located in Placer County, California. It's on the western side of Lake Tahoe, a famous lake. About 200 people live here. Homewood is about 5.5 miles (8.8 km) south of Tahoe City. It's also home to the Homewood Mountain Resort, a popular ski area.
History of Homewood
Homewood was founded by Thomas McConnell. In 1889, he bought land along the west shore of Lake Tahoe. He then created the Homewood District. This area included property on both sides of Highway 89.
The Homewood Post Office opened in 1909. This helped the community grow. The nearby community of Tahoe Pines also uses Homewood's ZIP Code, which is 96141.
Homewood Mountain Resort
The Homewood area is also known for the Homewood Mountain Ski Resort. This resort is right on the shore of Lake Tahoe. It's a great place for skiing and snowboarding.
The resort covers about 1,260 acres (5.1 square kilometers). It has 7 ski lifts to take you up the mountain. There are 60 different ski runs to choose from. The mountain offers a vertical drop of 1,650 feet (503 meters). The very top of the mountain is 7,880 feet (2,402 meters) high.
