History of Homewood

Homewood was founded by Thomas McConnell. In 1889, he bought land along the west shore of Lake Tahoe. He then created the Homewood District. This area included property on both sides of Highway 89.

The Homewood Post Office opened in 1909. This helped the community grow. The nearby community of Tahoe Pines also uses Homewood's ZIP Code, which is 96141.
