Tahoma is a small community in California, United States. It used to be called Chambers Lodge. This place is located in both Placer and El Dorado counties.
Tahoma sits right next to Lake Tahoe, about 2 miles (3.2 km) southeast of Homewood. In 2020, about 1,034 people lived here. Tahoma also has its own post office with the ZIP code 96142, which opened in 1946.

History of Tahoma
Tahoma began as a fun resort area in 1916. Its name was created by combining "Tahoe" (from Lake Tahoe) and "home."
Tahoma and the Winter Olympics
In 1960, the 1960 Winter Olympics were held nearby in Squaw Valley. Tahoma was chosen to host some of the events. There wasn't enough space in Squaw Valley for everything. So, Tahoma became the site for cross-country skiing and biathlon. A special stadium called McKinney Creek Stadium was built just for these games. After the Olympics, the stadium was taken down.

Tahoma was first counted as a census-designated place in the 2010 U.S. Census.
Population Details
In 2010, Tahoma had a population of 1,191 people. Most of the people living in Tahoma were White (94.8%). There were also smaller groups of African American, Native American, and Asian residents. About 4.3% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
All the people in Tahoma lived in regular homes. No one lived in special group housing or institutions.
There were 553 households in Tahoma. About 24.2% of these homes had children under 18 living there. Many homes (45.2%) were married couples. Some homes (31.1%) had just one person living in them. The average household had about 2.15 people.
