Chan Peng Soon (born 27 April 1988) is a Malaysian former badminton player. He was best known for playing in mixed doubles. He often teamed up with Goh Liu Ying. Together, they were one of the top mixed doubles pairs in the world.
Chan and Goh reached a high ranking of world number 3 in 2012. They won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. This was a big achievement for Malaysian badminton.

Chan's Badminton Journey
Early Career (2009–2013)
In July 2009, Chan won his first big international title. He played men's doubles with Lim Khim Wah at the Thailand Open. Later that year, he and Goh Liu Ying reached their first mixed doubles final at the Vietnam Open.
In April 2010, Chan and Goh made history. They became Malaysia's first mixed doubles champions at the 2010 Badminton Asia Championships. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Chan won a gold medal in the mixed team event.
In 2011, they were runners-up at the Malaysia Open. They also won the Bitburger Open in Germany.
In 2012, Chan and Goh reached the semi-finals of the famous All England Open. They also won their home tournament, the Malaysia Open.
Chan and Goh were the first Malaysian mixed doubles pair to play at the 2012 London Olympics. They gained valuable experience there. In September 2012, they won their first major Super Series title at the Japan Open.
Olympic Success and New Partners (2014–2017)
In 2014, Goh Liu Ying took a break for knee surgery. Chan played with Lai Pei Jing for a while. They reached the final of the Austrian International. Chan also won another gold medal in the mixed team event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Goh Liu Ying returned in 2015. They won three titles that year: the Polish Open, Russian Open, and Mexico Open. They also won a silver medal at the 2015 SEA Games.
In 2016, they won the New Zealand Open. The biggest moment came at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. Chan and Goh played incredibly well. They reached the final, becoming the first Malaysian mixed doubles pair to win an Olympic medal. They earned a silver medal, which was a huge achievement for them and for Malaysia.
In March 2017, they reached the final of the All England Open. This was a very important tournament. Later that year, Goh was injured again. Chan then played with Peck Yen Wei and later with Cheah Yee See. With Cheah Yee See, he won the Russia Open. At the 2017 SEA Games, he won a silver and a bronze medal.
Later Career (2018–present)
In January 2018, Chan and Goh reunited and won the Thailand Masters. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Chan won a silver medal in the mixed team event and a bronze medal in mixed doubles with Goh.
In December 2018, Chan and Goh decided to leave the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). They continued to play as independent players. They competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in 2021, but did not get past the group stage.
On December 6, 2021, Chan and Goh announced they would no longer play together. Chan continued his career. He rejoined BAM in January 2022. He played with Valeree Siow and later resumed his partnership with Cheah Yee See. In 2023, he won the Malaysia Masters with Cheah Yee See.
Personal Life
Chan Peng Soon is married to Esther Cham May May. They got married in September 2010. They have four children: Milton, Hannah, Julian, and Leah.

In May 2019, Chan and Goh became brand ambassadors for Yobick Malaysia. This means they helped promote the Yobick brand.
