Chang Jin-fu (born March 9, 1948) is a well-known Taiwanese politician, engineer, and computer scientist. He served as the Governor of Taiwan Province from 2009 to 2010.
Early Life and Education
Chang Jin-fu was born in Yingge Township, which is in Taipei County (now New Taipei City), Taiwan, in 1948. After finishing high school at Cheng Kung Senior High School, he went to National Taiwan University (NTU). In 1970, he earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from NTU. He then traveled to the United States to continue his studies. In 1977, he received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley.
Career Highlights
After finishing his studies, Chang Jin-fu returned to Taiwan. He spent most of his working life in universities. He taught and did research in the Electrical Engineering Department at National Taiwan University. He also led the Electrical Engineering Department for two years.
From 1982 to 1985, he taught at the Naval Postgraduate School in California, USA. He then worked for the Ministry of Education in Taiwan from 1987 to 1990. Later, he became the Dean of Academic Affairs at National Central University from 1991 to 1994.
Chang Jin-fu also served as the President of two different universities in Taiwan. He was the President of National Chi Nan University from 2000 to 2008. Later, from 2012 to 2015, he was the President of Yuan Ze University. He also led the Institute for Information Industry (III) in Taiwan as its Board Chairman.
Awards and Recognition
In 1994, Chang Jin-fu was recognized for his important work in wireless mobile communications. He was elected as an IEEE Fellow. This is a special honor given to members of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers who have made significant contributions to their field.
