What Makes the Chapel Special?

A Rustic Design in Alaska

The Chapel by the Lake is a great example of Rustic architecture. This style uses natural materials to make buildings look like they belong in nature. It often reminds people of cozy cabins or lodges. The chapel is special because it brings this rustic look to a neighborhood area.

Natural Building Materials

You can see the strong spruce logs that make up the chapel's walls. Even the beams that support the roof, called rafters and trusses, are visible logs. This makes the inside feel very natural and warm.

Amazing Views from the Altar

Behind the main worship area, called the altar, there is a very large window. This window offers a beautiful view of Auke Lake. Beyond the lake, you can see the huge Mendenhall Glacier. It's a truly stunning backdrop for services.

Events and Services

A Popular Place for Weddings

The Chapel by the Lake is a very popular place for people to get married. Many couples choose this beautiful spot for their wedding ceremonies.

Remembering a Hero

In 1992, a special service was held at the chapel. It was to honor Karl Reishus, a police officer from the Juneau Police Department. He was remembered for his bravery in saving two firefighters during a training accident.
