History of Chariton
Chariton was officially started in 1850. The city was named after a French trader.
Hotel Charitone's Story
The Hotel Charitone is a special building in Chariton. It was designed by a local architect named William L. Perkins. This hotel is important because it helped Chariton grow as a county seat. It is even listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel is currently being fixed up, and many parts of it are being turned into apartments.
