Charles William Foster, Jr. (born April 12, 1828 – died January 9, 1904) was an important Republican politician from Ohio. He served as the 35th Governor of Ohio. Later, he became the United States Secretary of the Treasury, a top job in the U.S. government, under President Benjamin Harrison.

Early Life and Hometown
Charles Foster was born near Tiffin, Ohio, in 1828. He grew up in a town called Rome. In 1854, Rome joined with another town, Risdon. They renamed the new town Fostoria to honor Charles's father.
Serving in Congress
In 1870, Charles Foster was chosen to represent Ohio in the United States House of Representatives. This is where laws are made for the whole country. He served in Congress from 1871 to 1879. He worked hard for the people of Ohio during his time there.
Becoming Governor of Ohio
After his time in Congress, Foster decided to run for a different important job. In 1879, he was elected as the Governor of Ohio. As governor, he was the leader of the state government. He served two terms, from 1880 to 1884.
Secretary of the Treasury
In 1891, President Benjamin Harrison asked Charles Foster to join his team. Foster became the United States Secretary of the Treasury. This job is like being the country's chief financial officer. The Secretary of the Treasury helps manage all the money for the United States government. Foster held this important position until 1893.
Later Life
After serving as Secretary of the Treasury, Charles Foster continued to be an influential figure. He passed away in 1904 in Springfield, Ohio. He is remembered for his dedication to public service and his many contributions to Ohio and the nation.
