Charles Edward Lockett was a professional football player. He was born on October 1, 1965. Charles played as a wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League (NFL). A wide receiver is a player who catches passes from the quarterback. He was chosen by the Steelers in the 1987 NFL Draft. Before that, he played college football at Long Beach State University. Lockett also played for the New York/New Jersey Knights in the World League of American Football (WLAF).
Early Life and College Football
Charles Edward Lockett was born in Los Angeles, California. He went to Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles.
After high school, he played college football for the Long Beach State 49ers. This was from 1983 to 1986. In his first year, 1983, he caught seven passes for 99 yards.
In 1984, he had a great season. He caught 75 passes for 1,112 yards. He also scored four Touchdowns. His 75 catches were the third-best in the whole country that year.
He continued to play well in 1985. He made 69 catches for 949 yards. He scored ten touchdowns, which was the most in his league. In his final year, 1986, he caught 40 passes for 742 yards and five touchdowns.
Professional Football Career
The Pittsburgh Steelers picked Charles Lockett in the 1987 NFL Draft. He was the 66th player chosen overall. He officially joined the team on July 20, 1987.
In his first year with the Steelers (1987), he played in 11 games. He caught seven passes for 116 yards. He also scored one touchdown.
In his second season (1988), he played in all 16 games. He caught 22 passes for 365 yards. He scored another touchdown that year. The Steelers released him in September 1989.
Lockett later signed with the Washington Redskins in March 1990. However, he was released in July 1990 after getting injured.
In 1991, he played for the New York/New Jersey Knights. This team was part of the World League of American Football (WLAF). He played in eight games for the Knights. He caught nine passes for 97 yards and scored one touchdown.
