Charles Lyon, 6th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne (born around 1699 – died 11 May 1728) was an important Scottish noble. He held the title of Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne. Charles was the son of John Lyon, the 4th Earl. We don't know his exact birthday, but he was baptised on 12 July 1699.

Who Was Charles Lyon?
Charles Lyon was a member of the Scottish nobility. This meant he came from a powerful and respected family. He inherited the title of Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne. This title gave him a special place in Scottish society.
Early Life and Family
Charles was born into a well-known family. His father was John Lyon, the 4th Earl. Charles had an older brother named John. This brother became the 5th Earl before Charles.
A Time of Change
Charles lived during a time of political unrest in Scotland. His family had supported the royal family. His brother, John, even joined a group called the Jacobites. They wanted to bring back the old royal family to the throne. John fought in the Battle of Sheriffmuir in 1715. Sadly, he died in that battle.
Even though his brother was involved, Charles was not part of the rebellion. However, an important person called the Old Pretender (James Stuart) visited his family's homes. The Old Pretender was the Jacobite claimant to the throne.
His Marriage
On 25 July 1725, Charles Lyon got married. His wife was Lady Susan Cochrane. She was the daughter of John Cochrane, the 4th Earl of Dundonald. Lady Susan lived until 23 June 1754.
An Unfortunate End
Charles Lyon's life ended unexpectedly. In May 1728, he was in Forfar when he died after a conflict. He was killed by a person named Carnegie of Finhaven. Charles Lyon did not have any children. Because of this, his title passed to another family member.
