Charles Edward O'Bannon Sr. (born February 22, 1975) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the UCLA Bruins. He was a top player in the Pac-10 conference (now called the Pac-12) twice.
Charles and his brother Ed helped the Bruins win a national championship in 1995. O'Bannon played two seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Detroit Pistons. He also played basketball in other countries like Japan, Poland, and Italy.

College Basketball Star
Charles O'Bannon played college basketball for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Bruins. He was a key player, often playing as a small forward or shooting guard. In the 1994–95 season, he was a starter on the team that won the NCAA championship.
He was chosen as a first-team All-Pac-10 player in both 1996 and 1997. He was also voted the co-Most Valuable Player for the Bruins in those years. His older brother, Ed O'Bannon, also played with him at UCLA before joining the NBA.
As part of Team USA, Charles O'Bannon won a gold medal. This happened at the 1995 World University Games.
Professional Career Highlights
The Detroit Pistons picked Charles O'Bannon in the 1997 NBA draft. He was the 31st player chosen overall. He played for the Pistons for two seasons. His best game was on April 14, 1999, when he scored 14 points against the Charlotte Hornets.
After playing in the NBA, O'Bannon continued his basketball career overseas. He played in Italy, Poland, and Japan. He stopped playing professionally in 2013. In 2000, he won the Polish championship with Śląsk Wrocław. He was also named the Most Valuable Player of the Finals that year.
In April 2004, he joined an Italian team called Benetton Treviso. There, he played with his former UCLA teammate Tyus Edney. While playing in Japan, O'Bannon won the JBL Super League championship in 2006 and 2007 with Toyota Alvark. He was also recognized as the 2006–07 All-JBL Super League Player of the Year.
Coaching Basketball
In 2018, Charles O'Bannon became a head coach. He coached the Seattle Ballers in the Junior Basketball Association (JBA). He also served as an assistant coach for the JBA USA Team. This team went on an international tour in 2018.
Later, he worked as an assistant coach at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas.
Family Life
Charles O'Bannon has a half-brother named Turhon O'Bannon. Turhon was also a professional athlete, playing football in the Canadian Football League.
Charles O'Bannon is also the father of Chuck O'Bannon Jr.. His son is also a basketball player.
