Charles Edward Ramsey was born on March 25, 1961. He is an American athlete and a college basketball coach. He used to be the head coach for the men's basketball team at Eastern Michigan University.
Early Life and Sports
Charles Ramsey was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He went to Ypsilanti High School and graduated in 1979. While in high school, he was a talented athlete. He played on the baseball, basketball, and football teams.
After high school, he played college basketball for Fisk University from 1979 to 1981. He was even named an All-American in 1980. This means he was recognized as one of the best college basketball players in the country. Later, in 1992, Ramsey earned his degree from Eastern Michigan University.
Charles Ramsey was honored for his sports achievements. He was inducted into the Ypsilanti High School Athletic Hall of Fame. This special hall recognizes great athletes from the school. He was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
Coaching Career Highlights
Charles Ramsey has had a long career in basketball coaching. He worked as an assistant basketball coach at several universities. These included the University of California, Drake University, Tennessee State, and the University of Michigan.
In 2005, he became the head coach at his old school, Eastern Michigan University. He led the team until 2011. During his time as head coach, Ramsey achieved 68 wins. This placed him fifth on the list of all-time winningest coaches for Eastern Michigan. Other top coaches include Ben Braun and Elton Rynearson.
In 2008, Ramsey was inducted into the Ypsilanti High School Hall of Fame again. He is also a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. This group supports basketball coaches across the country.
Family Life
Charles Ramsey has two sons, Charles (Tre’) and Chandler, with his late wife, Allison. They live in Ypsilanti. He remarried on January 1, 2019, to Janel N Ramsey. He also has a son named Jaden and a daughter named Ciara.
