Charleston View, also known as Calvada Springs, is a small community in Inyo County, California. It is an "unincorporated community," which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city does. In 2020, about 45 people lived here.
The name "Calvada Springs" is a mix of "California" and "Nevada." This is because the community is located close to the border between these two states. People who live in Charleston View sometimes call themselves "Charlestonians."

A Look Back at Charleston View
Charleston View is an "unincorporated community." This means it's a place where people live, but it's not officially a city or town with its own mayor and city council. Instead, it's managed by the county government.
The area of Charleston View that the government tracks for population (called a "census designated place" or CDP) is about 0.75 square miles. However, the county's planning area for Charleston View is much larger, covering almost 68 square miles.
Plans for Growth
In 2005, some companies wanted to build many new homes in Charleston View. They proposed building 65,000 houses. This idea caused a lot of concern for people living in nearby Pahrump, NV. Their main worry was that so many new homes would use up too much of the local groundwater. This water is important for everyone in the area.
By 2009, the developers suggested a smaller plan. They proposed building enough homes for a total population of about 40,000 people.
Solar Power Project
In 2012, a company called BrightSource Energy wanted to build a large solar power plant in Charleston View. It was called the Hidden Hills Solar Electric Generating System Project. However, this plan was stopped in 2015. People were worried about how the project might affect:
- Local wildlife
- The groundwater supply
- Important cultural and historical sites in the area

Visiting Charleston View
One interesting place to visit in Charleston View is the St. Thérèse Mission. This is a Catholic Church that is part of the Diocese of Fresno. It was built for a special reason. A businessman named Rafael Dizon Jr. wanted to honor Saint Therese after he recovered from cancer. The mission was also created to provide a Catholic cemetery for people from the Las Vegas area.
