Charles Miller (born 18 March 1976) is a Scottish former professional footballer. He played as an attacking midfielder. Charlie Miller started his career at Rangers, one of Scotland's biggest football clubs. In 1995, he was named the SPFA Young Player of the Year, showing how talented he was at a young age.

After playing for English clubs like Leicester City and Watford, Miller moved to Dundee United in 2000. He spent four seasons there. Later, he played for the Norwegian club SK Brann from 2004 to 2006, where he helped them win the Norwegian Cup in 2004. After playing in Belgium and Australia, he returned to Scotland in 2011 to play for Clyde.

Playing Career Highlights

Early Life and Football Start

Charlie Miller was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He grew up in the Castlemilk area of the city. His uncles introduced him to football. One uncle supported Rangers and the other Celtic. Charlie went to games for both teams when he was young. He started playing for a boys' club linked to Rangers when he was 11. He left Castlemilk High School early to join Rangers' staff.

Time at Rangers F.C.

Miller made his first team debut for Rangers in 1993 when he was just 17. He quickly showed his skill in the famous "nine-in-a-row" team under manager Walter Smith. He helped Rangers win three Scottish Premier Division titles between 1995 and 1997. He even provided the pass for Brian Laudrup to score the goal that won the championship in 1997.

He also won the Scottish League Cup in 1996. By the age of 21, he was playing in the UEFA Champions League. He played against big European teams like Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, and Ajax. A fun fact: when David Beckham scored his famous goal from the halfway line in 1996, he was wearing boots made for Charlie Miller! The boots had "CHARLIE" embroidered on them, but they were given to Beckham by mistake.

Moving to England and Dundee United

After a successful time at Rangers, Miller was loaned to Leicester City in 1999. He then joined Watford later that year. Watford was in the Premier League at the time. He played 15 league games for Watford.

In 2000, Miller moved to Dundee United on a free transfer. He really enjoyed his four years at Tannadice. He became a fan favorite and even made his international debut for Scotland during this time. He played 135 games for Dundee United, which was the most he played for any single club in his career.

Adventures in Norway and Belgium

In May 2004, Charlie Miller left Dundee United to join SK Brann in Norway. He quickly became popular with the fans in Bergen because of his great technique and passing skills. He helped Brann win the 2004 Norwegian Football Cup Final with a 4–1 victory over Lyn. He came on as a substitute in that final.

He played regularly for Brann in 2005 and started strong in 2006. However, he sometimes had disagreements with the manager about his playing position. In early 2007, his contract with SK Brann ended.

On 9 February 2007, Miller signed with the Belgian team Lierse S.K.. He scored his first goals for Lierse in April 2007. He signed a three-year contract, but left less than a year later.

Playing in Australia

On 31 July 2008, Charlie Miller signed a two-year deal with the Australian club Brisbane Roar. He had an amazing start to the 2008–09 season. He scored four goals in the first four games, setting a new A-League record for the best start to a season.

He later had surgery for a hernia. He returned to the team in January 2009. In December 2009, his contract with Brisbane Roar ended by agreement.

After leaving Brisbane Roar, Miller joined Gold Coast United on a short-term contract. While in Australia, he faced some financial challenges after trying a business venture.

Back to Scotland and Retirement

In February 2011, Charlie Miller returned to Scotland and signed for Clyde until the end of the season. He played 5 games for Clyde before being released.

After retiring from professional football, Charlie Miller started a youth football academy program in his old hometown of Castlemilk. He also played for a local amateur team.

International Career

Charlie Miller played one game for the Scotland national team. This was in 2001, in a 1–1 draw against Poland. Several other players, including his childhood friend Andy McLaren, also made their Scotland debuts in that same game.

Scotland's manager at the time, Craig Brown, said that Charlie Miller was a very talented player. Scotland captain Barry Ferguson also believed Miller should be in the Scotland team. However, after Craig Brown left, the new manager Berti Vogts did not pick Miller for the national team.
