Charlottesville Albemarle Airport (also known as CHO) is a public airport in Virginia, USA. It is located about 8 miles (12 km) north of Charlottesville, in Albemarle County. This airport has been serving travelers with airline flights since 1955. It helps people from the Charlottesville and Albemarle areas, plus nearby counties, fly to different places.
CHO airport offers about 46 non-stop flights every day to six different cities. Four main airlines use this airport. The airport also planned to make its runway 800 feet longer by the end of 2013 to help bigger planes land and take off.
The airport has a large building called a terminal, which is about 60,000 square feet (5,574 square meters). Inside the terminal, you can find places to rent cars, get ground transportation, and buy food or gifts from "The Market" Gourmet Deli & Gift Shop.
For smaller planes and pilots, there is a special service called a fixed base operator (FBO). At CHO, this is handled by Landmark Aviation. An FBO offers services like flight schools, plane repairs, and refueling. You can also rent or charter planes there. The UVA Hospital's Pegasus service also uses the airport. This service helps carry sick people to larger hospitals for special care.
