Early Life and High School Football
Chaz Green grew up in Tampa, Florida. He went to Tampa Catholic High School. There, he was a key player on the football team. He played as a left tackle. This position protects the quarterback.
As a junior, he was named second-team all-state. This means he was one of the best players in his state. In his senior year, his team had a great season. They won 11 games and only lost 2. They also rushed for over 3,000 yards. Chaz was considered one of the top offensive linemen in the country.
College Career at Florida
After high school, Chaz decided to play for the University of Florida. He was a highly recruited player. In 2010, he was a "redshirt" player. This means he practiced with the team but didn't play in any games. This allowed him to train and get stronger.
In 2011, Chaz started playing regularly. He was the starting right tackle for the first 8 games. Unfortunately, he hurt his ankle and missed four games. Even with the injury, he earned Freshman All-American honors. This showed he was one of the best new players in college football.
As a sophomore, he started 10 games. But injuries caused him to miss two more games. In 2013, he had a serious shoulder injury. He missed the entire season because of it. The next year, he played in 11 games. He played both right tackle and left tackle.
Professional Football Journey
Chaz Green was chosen by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was the 91st player picked overall. He was picked a bit later than expected because of his past injuries.
Dallas Cowboys Years
When he joined the Cowboys, Chaz had hip surgery. This made him miss all of training camp. He started his first season on the "physically unable to perform" list. This means he couldn't play until he was fully healthy. He was activated in December but didn't play in any games that year.
In 2016, Chaz was a backup player. He filled in when other players were hurt. He started two games at left tackle. He played against the Chicago Bears and the San Francisco 49ers. During the 49ers game, he sprained his foot. This injury kept him out for several weeks. He then developed a back problem. He had surgery and was placed on the injured reserve list. He missed 12 games that season.
In 2017, Chaz hoped to become a starting player. He was considered for the right tackle spot. But another player, La'el Collins, got the job. Chaz then became the starting left guard. This position is also part of the offensive line. He started the first three games there. However, a hip injury made him miss a practice. This gave another player, Jonathan Cooper, a chance to start. Chaz went back to being a backup.
Later in 2017, he got another chance to start. He played left tackle against the Atlanta Falcons. In that game, he struggled. He allowed four "sacks" to an opposing player. A sack is when the defense tackles the quarterback. After that game, he didn't play for the rest of the season.
In 2018, the Cowboys signed another offensive tackle. Chaz was asked to focus on playing right tackle. He continued to have issues with dehydration during training camp. On September 1, 2018, the Cowboys released him from the team.
