Chaz drives the No. 25 Ford Mustang GT for the Walkinshaw Andretti United team. He is famous for winning the 2021 Bathurst 1000 race with Lee Holdsworth. He also won the 2014 Bathurst 1000 with Paul Morris. In 2010, he won the 2010 Australian Formula Ford Championship.
Early Racing Days
Chaz Mostert grew up in Browns Plains, near Brisbane. He started kart racing when he was just seven years old. He raced karts in Ipswich and the Gold Coast.
After karting, Chaz moved into Formula Ford racing in 2008. He quickly showed his talent. In 2010, he won the 2010 Australian Formula Ford Championship. He even set a record for the most race wins in a single season!
Racing Touring Cars
Starting in Development Series
In 2010, Chaz got a chance to race a Ford BF Falcon at Bathurst. This was in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series, which is a stepping stone for young drivers. He did very well, finishing 6th and 4th in his first races. This led to a full-time deal for the 2011 season. He was especially good in wet weather.
Later in 2011, Ford Performance Racing signed him. He even got a pole position in his first race with them. He finished on the podium three times in the last two races. Because of his great performance, Chaz won the Mike Kable Young Gun Award in 2011. This award is for promising young drivers.
In 2012, Chaz continued with Ford Performance Racing in the Development Series. He won the first race weekend at the Adelaide 500. He finished third in the championship that year. Many strong drivers were in the series, including Scott McLaughlin.
Chaz won the Adelaide 500 round again in 2013. He was driving for MW Motorsport. But soon after, he was called up to race in the main V8 Supercars championship.
Joining the Supercars Championship
Chaz Mostert made his big debut in the V8 Supercars Championship in 2013. He joined Dick Johnson Racing at the Perth 360 race. Amazingly, in only his fifth championship event, Chaz won his first race! This happened at the Ipswich 360 in July 2013. He finished 17th in the championship, even though he missed the first few races.
Racing for Ford Performance Racing
In 2014, Chaz moved to Ford Performance Racing. He continued to impress everyone. He won his second championship race at Barbagallo. Then, in October 2014, Chaz won the famous Bathurst 1000 with his co-driver Paul Morris. They started from the very back of the grid, which was a record for a winning team! Chaz finished the 2014 championship in seventh place.
Prodrive Racing Australia and a Big Crash
In 2015, Ford Performance Racing changed its name to Prodrive Racing Australia. Chaz and his teammate Mark Winterbottom were top contenders for the championship. Chaz won several races that year. He was in a great position heading into the Bathurst 1000.
However, during qualifying for the 2015 Bathurst 1000, Chaz had a very serious crash. He broke his leg and wrist, which meant he couldn't race for the rest of the season. His wrecked car is now in a museum near the track.
Returning with Rod Nash Racing
Chaz made a strong comeback in 2016 and 2017. He raced for Rod Nash Racing, a team linked to Prodrive Racing Australia. In his first race back after the crash, he took pole position! This was a huge achievement for him. Even though he didn't win a race in 2016, he finished seventh in the championship.
In 2017, Chaz finally broke his winning drought. He won three races, including one at the Gold Coast 600. This win helped him and his co-driver Steve Owen win the Enduro Cup, a special championship for endurance races.
Tickford Racing and New Cars
In 2018, the team changed its name again to Tickford Racing. It was a tough year for the team, but Chaz still managed to win one race at the Gold Coast 600.
In 2019, Tickford Racing started using the new Ford Mustang GT car. Chaz had a good year with one win and several podium finishes. However, he had another big crash at the Gold Coast, which stopped him from racing there.
Joining Walkinshaw Andretti United
On November 26, 2019, Chaz announced a big change. He left Tickford Racing after seven years and moved to Walkinshaw Andretti United. This also meant he switched from racing Fords to racing Holdens.
In June 2021, Chaz signed a long-term contract with Walkinshaw Andretti United. He then went on to win the 2021 Darwin Triple Crown race. On December 4, 2021, Chaz set a new lap record at the Bathurst 1000 during qualifying. He drove a Holden ZB Commodore to a super-fast time of 2:03.3736.
