Chaz Mostert's Early Racing Days
Chaz grew up in a place called Browns Plains, close to Brisbane. He started his racing journey very young, at just seven years old! He began with kart racing in Ipswich and on the Gold Coast, learning the ropes of speed and competition.
In 2008, Chaz moved up to Formula Ford racing. He quickly showed his skill, finishing 11th in the championship that year. The next year, 2009, he improved to fourth place. Then, in 2010, he became the champion of the 2010 Australian Formula Ford Championship, setting a new record for the most race wins in a single season!
Racing in Touring Cars
Starting in the Development Series
In 2010, Chaz got a big chance to drive a V8 Supercar at the famous Bathurst track. He did very well, finishing 6th and 4th in his races. This led to him joining Miles Racing for the 2011 season. He was especially good in wet weather!
Later in 2011, a bigger team, Ford Performance Racing, signed him. He even got a pole position (starting first) in his very first race with them. He earned the Mike Kable Young Gun Award for being a promising new talent.
Chaz continued with Ford Performance Racing in 2012. He dominated the first race weekend in Adelaide, winning both races after starting from pole position. He finished third overall in the championship that year. This series was very competitive, with many future stars.
In 2013, Chaz won the Adelaide race again. Soon after, he was invited to join the main V8 Supercars championship, which was a huge step up!
Becoming a Supercars Champion
Joining Dick Johnson Racing
Chaz made his big debut in the V8 Supercars Championship in 2013 with Dick Johnson Racing. It was a huge moment for him! In just his fifth race, he won his very first championship event at Queensland Raceway. This was an amazing achievement for a young driver. He finished 17th in the championship, even though he missed some early races.
Driving for Ford Performance Racing
In 2014, Chaz joined Ford Performance Racing. He quickly won his second championship race in Perth. The biggest highlight of 2014 was when Chaz won the famous Bathurst 1000 with his co-driver Paul Morris. They started from the very back of the grid, which was a record-breaking achievement! Chaz finished the 2014 championship in seventh place.
Racing with Prodrive Australia
In 2015, Chaz's team became Prodrive Racing Australia. He and his teammate were top contenders for the championship. Chaz won several races that year. However, during qualifying for the 2015 Bathurst 1000, he had a serious crash. This accident meant he couldn't race for the rest of the season. His damaged car is now in a museum.
Adventures with Rod Nash Racing
For 2016 and 2017, Chaz raced for Rod Nash Racing. In his first race back after his injury, he achieved a pole position, which he said was almost as exciting as winning Bathurst! Even though he had many pole positions in 2016, he didn't win any races, finishing seventh in the championship.
In 2017, Chaz finally broke his winning drought with three victories. He won races at Phillip Island, Queensland Raceway, and the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast win helped him and his co-driver, Steve Owen, win the first-ever Enduro Cup for their team and for Ford.
Time with Tickford Racing
In 2018, the team changed its name to Tickford Racing. It was a tough season, and Chaz only managed one victory, again at the Gold Coast 600.
In 2019, Tickford Racing introduced the new Ford Mustang GT. Chaz had a good year with one win and several podium finishes (top three).
Success with Walkinshaw Andretti United
In November 2019, Chaz announced he was leaving Tickford Racing after seven years. He joined Walkinshaw Andretti United and switched to racing Holden cars for the 2020 season.
He signed a long-term contract with the team in June 2021. Later that week, he won the Darwin Triple Crown! In November 2021, Chaz drove amazingly from last place to finish third in a rainy night race in Sydney. He also set a new lap record at Bathurst in December 2021.
Chaz had an incredible 2025 season. On November 30, 2025, he was crowned the Supercars Champion! He currently races for Walkinshaw TWG Racing in the 2026 season.
Racing Production Cars
In 2011, Chaz competed in the Bathurst 12 Hour race. He finished third in his class.
In 2016, Chaz, along with Nathan Morcom, won the very first Bathurst 6 Hour race. They drove a BMW 335i E92 car.
