The Goodyera tesselata is a special plant. It belongs to the orchid family. People often call it the checkered rattlesnake plantain.
This plant grows naturally in eastern Canada. You can find it from Manitoba all the way to Newfoundland. It also lives in the northeastern United States. Its range goes from Maine to Maryland, and west to Minnesota.
What It Looks Like
The checkered rattlesnake plantain has unique leaves. They grow close to the ground. These leaves have cool white lines that look like a net. This is why it's called "checkered."
The plant also grows a tall stem. On top of this stem, you'll find small white flowers. They stand upright, making the plant easy to spot.
