Cheney is a small city located in Sedgwick County, Kansas, in the United States. Its name is pronounced like "Chee-nee" (/ˈni/). In 2020, about 2,181 people lived there.

Discovering Cheney's Past

Cheney was started in August 1883. It was named after Benjamin P. Cheney. He was an important person who owned shares in the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.

The city was a stop and a place to ship goods on the Wichita & Pratt railway line. The first post office in Cheney opened its doors in September 1883.
