Where is Cherry Hill Located?
Cherry Hill is in the southern part of Baltimore, Maryland. It is bordered by the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River to the north. The main river channel is to the east. Railroad tracks, including the Baltimore Light Rail, are to the west. To the south is Baltimore Highlands, Maryland.

Cherry Hill has many different types of homes. It includes Cherry Hill Homes, which is a large community of public housing. Public housing helps people find affordable places to live. There are also private homes and other apartments in the area.
A New High School for Cherry Hill
In 2014, Baltimore City Public Schools made an important announcement. They decided to move Maritime Industries Academy, a high school, to Cherry Hill. This move helped the community get its own high school. It meant that teenagers in Cherry Hill would not have to travel far to attend school. The high school opened in Cherry Hill for the 2015–2016 school year.
Getting Around Cherry Hill
There are a few main roads that lead into and out of Cherry Hill. These roads include Hanover Street, Potee Street, Cherry Hill Road, and Waterview Avenue.
Public transportation is very important in Cherry Hill. The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) provides bus services. You can take bus 26 or 71. The neighborhood also has a stop for the Baltimore Light Rail. This light rail stop is called the Cherry Hill light rail stop. It is located on the northwest side of the neighborhood.
History of Cherry Hill
How Cherry Hill Began
The Cherry Hill neighborhood was developed fairly recently in Baltimore's history. It was created as a home for African-American veterans. These veterans were returning from both World War II and the Korean War. It was a place for them to settle down after serving their country.
The Romani Community in Cherry Hill
In the early and mid-1900s, Cherry Hill was home to a group of Romani people. These Romani people were of Romanian descent. They settled in Cherry Hill because it was undeveloped. It was also on the edge of the city, which made it a good spot for them.
Many Romani people worked in fortune-telling. They often traveled up and down the East Coast. Baltimore was a central location for their travels, especially for carnival circuits.
Later, some laws were passed in the 1920s and 1930s. These laws made fortune-telling illegal in Baltimore. They also required a large fee for travelers to enter the city. Because of these laws, the Romani community left Cherry Hill for a short time. However, they soon returned. The laws were not often enforced, so they could continue their way of life.
