About Cherry Run

Cherry Run is an "unincorporated community." This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It's part of Morgan County in West Virginia.

A Place for Trains

Cherry Run was once known as Cherry Run Depot. A "depot" is a train station or a place where trains stop. This area was very important for trains because two big railroad companies met here. These were the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O) and the Western Maryland Railway.

Trains from both companies would meet and switch tracks here. This made Cherry Run a busy spot for moving goods and people by rail.

Miller Tower's Story

For many years, a special building called Miller Tower stood at Cherry Run. This tower helped control the train tracks and made sure trains could switch safely. It was like a traffic control center for trains.

In 2000, Miller Tower was closed. It was then taken apart and moved to a different location. In 2005, it was put back together at the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Martinsburg Shops site. This way, a piece of Cherry Run's railroad history was saved.
