The Chicoutimi Saguenéens are a Canadian junior ice hockey team. They play in a major league for young players called the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). This team is based in Chicoutimi, Quebec, a city in Canada. The City of Saguenay actually owns the team. The Saguenéens play all their home games at the Centre Georges-Vézina arena.

History of the Saguenéens Hockey Team

The Chicoutimi Saguenéens team started playing in the 1973–74 season. Their name, Saguenéens, means "People from the Saguenay region." Fans often call them the "Sags" for short.

The Sags have won the President's Cup twice. This is a big championship trophy in their league. They won it in 1990–91 and again in 1993–94. After winning the President's Cup, they got to play in the Memorial Cup. This is a huge tournament for the best junior hockey teams in Canada. However, they didn't make it past the first round in those years.

The Sags also played in the 1997 Memorial Cup because they were the host team. Even then, they didn't get past the first round. Their home arena, the Centre Georges-Vézina, also hosted the Memorial Cup in 1988. But the team didn't play in it that year.
