The Chimehuin River is a beautiful river located in the northwest part of Argentina. It flows through the Neuquén Province, which is in the Patagonia region. This river starts its journey from Lake Huechulafquen and flows past the town of Junín de los Andes.

After traveling about 53 kilometers (around 33 miles), the Chimehuin River joins another river called the Aluminé River. Together, they form a larger river known as the Collón Curá River.

About the Chimehuin River

The Chimehuin River is an important natural feature in the Neuquén Province. It is known for its clear waters and the stunning natural scenery around it. The river's path takes it through different landscapes, from mountain areas near its source to more open plains.

A Great Spot for Fishing

The Chimehuin River is very famous for fly fishing. People from all over the world come here to enjoy this sport. Fly fishing is a special way of fishing where anglers use a lightweight lure, called a "fly," to catch fish. The river is especially known for two types of trout that live in its waters.

These fish are not originally from Argentina. They are introduced species, meaning they were brought to the river from other places. The two main types of trout found here are the brown trout and the rainbow trout. They are very popular with fishermen because they are fun to catch.

Protecting Nature

The first part of the Chimehuin River, from where it leaves Lake Huechulafquen up to a few kilometers before Junín de los Andes, is a protected area. This special place is called the Área Natural Protegida Boca del Chimehuin. A protected area is a place where nature is kept safe. This helps to protect the river's environment, its fish, and other wildlife that live there. It ensures that the river remains a healthy and beautiful place for future generations to enjoy.
