Chisholm, also known as Chisholm Mills, is a small community in Alberta, Canada. It is called a hamlet, which is a type of small village. Chisholm is located about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) east of the Athabasca River. It is also about 56 kilometers (35 miles) southeast of the town of Slave Lake. You can reach Chisholm by road, as it is near Alberta Highway 44. A railway line, the Canadian National Railway, also serves the area.
The History of Chisholm
The community of Chisholm got its name from an early settler named Thomas Chisholm. He was one of the first people to live there.
During World War II, a special camp called Camp Chisholm was located here.
The Big Fire of 2001
In the summer of 2001, a very large forest fire happened near Chisholm. On May 27 and 28, the fire destroyed ten houses in the hamlet. It also burned 120,000 hectares (about 296,500 acres) of trees in the surrounding forests. An investigation by the Province of Alberta suggested that a train from the Canadian National Railway caused the fire.
