The Choapa River (also known as El Río Choapa) is an important river in Chile. You can find it in the Coquimbo Region. This river starts high up in the amazing Andes mountains. It is formed when three smaller streams meet. These streams are called Totoral, Leiva, and Del Valle.

The Choapa River then flows through the town of Salamanca. After this, it meets its main helper river, the Illapel River. Finally, the Choapa River flows into the huge Pacific Ocean. This happens near a place called Huentelauquén Cove. This spot is about 35 kilometers north of Los Vilos.

The Choapa River's Journey

The Choapa River begins its journey in the tall Andes mountains. It collects water from melting snow and rain. As it flows, it passes through different landscapes. The river helps to water the land around it. This makes the area good for farming.

Life Along the River

The biggest town along the Choapa River is Salamanca. People in this area use the river's water for many things. It helps with farming and provides water for homes. The river also supports different kinds of plants and animals. Its valley is a beautiful place to live.

Meeting the Ocean

After traveling about 160 kilometers, the Choapa River reaches the Pacific Ocean. Rivers like the Choapa are very important. They carry fresh water from the mountains to the sea. This journey helps connect different parts of the land. It also creates unique environments where the river meets the ocean.
