Chris Carrawell (born November 25, 1977) is an American professional basketball player and coach. He is currently the associate head coach for the Duke Blue Devils. Chris is well-known for his amazing college basketball career at Duke University. In 2000, he was named an All-American and the ACC Player of the Year.

High School Basketball Star
Chris Carrawell grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. He went to Cardinal Ritter College Prep. During his four years there, his team had an incredible record of 80 wins and only 13 losses. They even had a three-year winning streak at home!
As a sophomore, Chris averaged 19.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. He was also great at passing, stealing, and blocking shots. Before his junior year, he was named a USA Today Top 40 All-American. That year, he helped his team win the state's Class AA championship.
The next season, Cardinal Ritter won the state title again! Chris averaged 17.4 points and 8.2 rebounds. He was named conference Player of the Year twice. He also set school records for total points (2,087), rebounds (1,076), and assists (555).
College Career at Duke
Chris Carrawell was a top recruit for Duke University and their famous coach, Mike Krzyzewski. He played for the Duke Blue Devils from 1996 to 2000.
Freshman Year (1996–97)
In his first year, Chris played in 31 games and started 12 of them. He was very efficient, shooting 57.6% from the field. He averaged 5.5 points per game and led the team in dunks with 22. One memorable moment was when he helped Duke beat Wake Forest by blocking a key shot from their star player, Tim Duncan.
Sophomore Year (1997–98)
As a sophomore, Chris mostly came off the bench but started 10 games. Duke had a great season, winning 32 games and reaching the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. Chris was the fourth-highest scorer on the team, averaging 10.1 points per game. He scored 19 points in one game against North Carolina and 18 in another.
Junior Year (1998–99)
In his junior year, Chris started every game for Duke. He averaged 9.9 points per game and was a key player in helping his team reach the Final Four. Duke was undefeated in their conference that year. They made it all the way to the national championship game but lost to the University of Connecticut. Chris was named Third-Team All-ACC for his efforts.
Senior Year (1999–00)
Chris had an outstanding senior season. He started every game and averaged 16.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. He was second on his team in scoring, rebounding, and assists. Duke finished with a 29–5 record and won the ACC Tournament championship. They also made it to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament.
For his amazing performance, Chris was named the 2000 ACC Player of the Year. He also earned First-Team All-American honors.
Duke University Records
Chris Carrawell was a versatile player who could guard many different positions. He was named All-ACC twice during his time at Duke. He is tied for 27th on Duke's all-time scoring list with 1,455 career points. He also ranks 14th in school history for blocks per game.
Chris helped Duke achieve incredible success in the ACC. He finished his college career with 66 conference wins, which is the second-most by any Duke player. He and his teammate Nate James are the only two players in ACC history to play on teams that won four straight ACC regular-season championships. Chris was also the only player to be part of Duke's record-breaking 30 straight league wins.
During Chris's college career, the Duke Blue Devils had an amazing overall record of 133 wins and only 24 losses. In 136 college games, he averaged 10.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.

Professional Basketball Career
After college, Chris Carrawell was chosen by the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of the 2000 NBA draft. He played professional basketball overseas and in different leagues in the United States.
He played in Italy for a year, then returned to the U.S. to play in the first season of the D League with the Asheville Altitude. He averaged 7.3 points per game in 56 games for the Altitude.
Over the next six years, Chris played in Lithuania, Germany, Australia for the Sydney Kings, and the Philippines. He also played in the American Basketball Association (ABA). In the ABA, he had a fantastic year in 2006. He won the ABA MVP Award, an ABA Championship, and the ABA Championship MVP award. Chris retired from playing basketball in 2007 after playing in the Netherlands.
Chris Carrawell was the first player drafted into the NBA in the new millennium who never played a single game in the NBA.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player in 2007, Chris Carrawell returned to Duke University. He worked in various roles, including Athletics Outreach Coordinator and graduate assistant.
In 2011, he became an assistant coach for the Springfield Armor, a team in the NBA D League. In 2014, Chris joined the coaching staff at Marquette University. He worked there under his former Duke teammate, Steve Wojciechowski.
After four years at Marquette, Chris accepted an assistant coaching position at his old school, Duke, on March 30, 2018. He took over from Jeff Capel, who became a head coach at another university. Since 2021, Chris has been the associate head coach for the Duke Blue Devils.
Personal Life
Chris Carrawell lives in Mebane, North Carolina, with his wife, Keisha Royster-Carrawell. They have two sons named Caleb and Christian. Chris earned a degree in sociology from Duke University.
