Chris Douglas-Roberts, born on January 8, 1987, is a former professional basketball player from America. He played college basketball for the University of Memphis.

High School Basketball Days

Chris Douglas-Roberts played high school basketball at Cass Technical High School and Northwestern High School. In 2003 and 2004, he played for Cass Tech. During that time, he averaged 28 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists per game.

After the 2004 season, he moved to Northwestern High. Due to transfer rules, he played less often there. He joined the team in the second semester. He finished that season averaging 13.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Experts at Rivals.com saw him as a top player. They listed him as the 26th best shooting guard in the nation in 2005.

College Basketball Career

During his first year, called his freshman season, Chris played in 34 games. He started 25 of those games. He averaged 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. Because he played so well, he was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team.

In his second year, his sophomore season, he started all 35 games he played. He was the top scorer for the Memphis Tigers, averaging 15.4 points per game. He earned many awards, including being named to the All-Conference USA first team. He also received an honorable mention from the Associated Press All-America team.

During his third year, his junior season, he helped the Tigers reach the 2008 NCAA tournament. This is a big competition for college teams. He averaged 23.3 points over six games in the tournament. The Tigers finished in second place, losing the National Championship game to the Kansas Jayhawks. The final score was 75–68 in overtime.

At the end of his junior year, he was named a first-team All-American. This means he was recognized as one of the best college players in the country. He finished his college career with a total of 1,545 points.

Professional Basketball Career

Playing in the NBA

On April 18, 2008, Chris Douglas-Roberts announced he would join the 2008 NBA draft. This is where professional teams pick new players. The New Jersey Nets chose him as the 40th overall pick. On July 9, 2008, the Nets officially signed him to their team.

On June 25, 2010, the Nets traded Douglas-Roberts. He went to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for a future draft pick.

Playing in Italy

In September 2011, Douglas-Roberts moved to Italy. He joined a team called Virtus Bologna.

Back to the NBA and D-League

On October 1, 2012, Douglas-Roberts signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, he was released from the team on October 22. A few days later, on October 27, he signed with the Dallas Mavericks. But he was released again the very next day.

On November 1, 2012, he joined the Texas Legends. This team is part of the NBA D-League, which is like a minor league for basketball.

He re-signed with the Dallas Mavericks on December 23, 2012. But on January 6, 2013, the Mavericks released him again.

In July 2013, Douglas-Roberts played for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2013 NBA Summer League. On October 2, 2013, he signed with the New York Knicks. However, he was released by the Knicks on October 25, 2013.

In November 2013, the Texas Legends brought him back to their team. On December 11, 2013, he signed with the Charlotte Bobcats. On April 14, 2014, he made a game-winning shot at the buzzer. This shot helped the Bobcats beat the Atlanta Hawks 95–93.

On September 3, 2014, Douglas-Roberts signed with the Los Angeles Clippers.

On January 15, 2015, the Boston Celtics acquired him in a trade. This trade involved three different teams. Three days later, the Celtics released him.

On September 18, 2015, Douglas-Roberts signed with the New Orleans Pelicans. However, he was released on October 23 after playing in five preseason games. On February 29, 2016, the Texas Legends reacquired him one more time.

Chris Douglas-Roberts' last NBA game was played on January 11, 2015. This was a game where the Clippers lost to the Miami Heat. He played for only one minute in that game.

During the 2010–11 preseason, Chris had an eye injury. He suffered a retina tear. After surgery, he started wearing special protective eyewear when he played.
