Christopher Bernard Porter (born May 9, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player. He was known for his exciting dunking and rebounding skills. Chris could jump very high, which helped him a lot in games.
He played for the Auburn University team in college. Later, he played in the NBA and for many other teams around the world.

Chris Porter's Early Life
Chris Porter was born and grew up in Abbeville, Alabama. This is a small town with only a few thousand people. He went to Abbeville High School.
While there, he helped his school win the 4A State Championship in his senior year. He was also named the 4A State Player of the Year.
College Basketball Career
From 1996 to 1998, Chris played college basketball at Chipola College. He was named a JUCO All-American, which means he was one of the best players in junior college.
Then, he played for Auburn University for two years. In his junior year (1998–99), he helped Auburn reach the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. This is a big achievement in college basketball.
That same season, he was named the SEC Player of the Year. He was also chosen for the All-America team. The next year, Chris was on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine. This showed how highly people thought of the Auburn Tigers team. However, Chris faced a challenge that led to a suspension for the last eight games of that season.
Professional Basketball Journey
Playing in the NBA
The Golden State Warriors picked Chris Porter in the 2000 NBA draft. He was the 55th player chosen overall. In his first year (2000–01), he played in 51 games. He scored about 8.6 points and grabbed 3.7 rebounds per game.
His first season was tough because of an ankle injury. After his rookie year, Chris had some difficulties. He was traded to the Charlotte Hornets but was later waived. He did not play in the NBA after the 2000-2001 season. His last NBA game was on April 18, 2001, where he scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds.
Playing Around the World
After the NBA, Chris played for many teams in different leagues.
- CBA and USBL: In 2002, he joined the Dakota Wizards in the CBA. He helped them win the 2002 CBA championship. After that, he played for the Oklahoma Storm in the USBL and helped them win the 2002 USBL championship.
- Italy and Portugal: Chris also played in Italy for Carifac Fabriano and in Portugal for Oliveirense Simoldes. He played for the Dakota Wizards and Oklahoma Storm again during these years.
- China and Philippines: From 2005, Chris played in China for Fujian Xunxing. He also played in the Philippines for the Barangay Ginebra Kings. He returned to Fujian Xunxing in China for several more seasons.
- NBA D-League: Later, Chris played for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA Development League (now called the G-League). He played there for three successful years, from 2012 to 2015. He even won a championship with the team in the 2013–14 season.
- New Zealand: In 2016, Chris signed with the Hawke's Bay Hawks in New Zealand. He was a co-captain for the team. He played well in his first few games, scoring many points and rebounds. However, he had to stop playing early due to a hamstring injury.
