Playing in the NFL
Chris Scott was chosen by the Indianapolis Colts in the 1984 NFL draft. He was the 66th player picked overall. He also had a chance to play for the Memphis Showboats in another league, the USFL. But he decided to sign with the Colts on July 14, 1984.
Starting with the Colts
In his first year, 1984, Scott played in 14 games for the Colts. He started two of those games. The next year, in 1985, he played in all 16 games. He started 14 of them. During that season, he got five "sacks." A sack happens when a defensive player tackles the opposing team's quarterback.
The Colts released him in September 1986. But he signed with them again in July 1987. He was released again in August. Later that year, during an NFL players' strike, Scott rejoined the Colts. He started all three games played during the strike. After the strike ended, he was released again in October.
Time with the Miami Dolphins
On December 18, 1987, Chris Scott signed a contract with the Miami Dolphins. This was a "futures contract," meaning it would start in the next season. However, he was placed on injured reserve in July 1988. This meant he couldn't play for the entire 1988 season because of an injury. He was released by the Dolphins in April 1989. This happened after he failed a physical exam.
