Chris Taft's College Basketball Journey
Chris Taft was born in Brooklyn, New York. He started his college basketball career at the University of Pittsburgh after finishing high school at Xaverian High School.
Freshman Year Success
In his first year at Pittsburgh, Chris Taft quickly made a name for himself. He won the Rookie of the Year Award for the Big East Conference. He also set a new record for the most field goals made by a freshman at Pittsburgh, with 162. His great performance earned him a spot on the Third Team All-Big East list.
Moving to the NBA Draft
During the 2004–05 season, Chris played about 26 minutes per game. He averaged 13.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. He was also very accurate, shooting 58.5% from the field.
After his team lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Chris decided to enter the 2005 NBA draft. He hired an agent, which meant he could no longer play college basketball.
Chris Taft's Professional Basketball Career
Chris Taft entered the NBA draft hoping to be picked in the first round. However, he was chosen in the second round, as the 42nd overall pick. The Golden State Warriors selected him.
Rookie Season Challenges
Chris's first season with the Golden State Warriors was tough. He only played in 17 games because of back spasms. These back problems ended his season early in January. He even had surgery in 2006 to fix a back injury.
In the limited time he played, Chris averaged 2.8 points and 2.1 rebounds in about 8.5 minutes per game.
Key Games and Later Career
Chris had a couple of notable games during his time with the Warriors. On November 9, 2005, he scored 7 points in 19 minutes against the Chicago Bulls. On November 2, he achieved a career-high of three blocks against the Atlanta Hawks.
Due to his ongoing back issues, Chris could not play during the 2006–07 NBA preseason. The Warriors released him on October 27, 2006, making him a free agent.
In November 2011, Chris was picked by the Springfield Armor in the NBA D-League Draft. Later, in August 2012, he signed a contract to play for Korihait in Finland. However, Korihait released him in December due to his health problems.
