History of Christ Church

Building the First Church

The first Christ Church building was constructed between 1836 and 1837. A talented architect named J. D. Paine designed it. This church was built with a strong focus on evangelical beliefs. This means it emphasized the importance of the Bible and a personal relationship with God. A group called the Church Pastoral Aid Society also helped support the church.

A New Church for a Growing Town

As the town of Newark grew bigger, more space was needed for the church community. So, a brand new Christ Church building was constructed in 1956. This new church was built at the corner of Boundary Road and Holden Crescent. The Bishop of Southwell officially opened and blessed the new church in 1958.

The Church Organ

Christ Church has a special musical instrument called an organ. This organ was made by a company called Cousins of Lincoln. It has two keyboards, which are called "manuals." This allows the organist to play many different sounds. You can find more details about this organ online.
