Christie Allen (born June Dorothy Allen; 24 July 1954 – 12 August 2008) was a talented pop singer. She was born in England and moved to Australia. Christie became very popular in Australia.

She had two big hit songs. These were "Goosebumps" in 1979 and "He's My Number One" in 1980. Both songs reached the top four on the Australian music charts. Christie was also voted the 'Most Popular Female Performer' for two years in a row. This was at the TV Week / Countdown Music Awards in 1979 and 1980.

Christie Allen passed away on 12 August 2008. She was 54 years old.

The Early Life of Christie Allen

Christie Allen was born June Dorothy Allen in Romford, England. Her birthday was 24 July 1954. Her parents were Keith and Vera Allen. Christie had three brothers: Keith, Stephen, and Mark.

When she was eight, Christie showed her singing talent. She sang a song called "My Johnny's Gone Away" in a talent show. In 1965, her family moved to Australia. They settled in a city called Perth. Christie and her brothers formed a band together. They named their band Pendulum. Christie was the lead singer.

Starting a Music Career

While singing with Pendulum, Christie met Terry Britten. He was a songwriter and music producer. Terry was also a guitarist for an Australian rock band called the Twilights. He had written songs for famous artists like Cliff Richard.

Terry Britten was very impressed by Christie's voice. He also liked her cheerful personality. He started writing songs especially for her. In 1978, Christie signed a record deal. She joined a company called Mushroom Records.

Her first song was "You Know That I Love You". It came out in September 1978. This song made it into the top 100 songs in Australia. It also got played on national radio.

Hit Songs and Albums

Christie's first album was called Magic Rhythm. It was released in November 1979. Three songs from this album became big hits. "Falling in Love with Only You" reached number 20 in April 1979.

Her next two songs were very popular. They were influenced by the disco music style. "Goosebumps" reached number 3 in September 1979. "He's My Number One" peaked at number 4 in February 1980. "Goosebumps" sold over 60,000 copies.

Christie toured all over Australia. She performed with her band, The Hot Band. They played many concerts for her fans.

Christie Allen was a big star on Australian TV. She was voted the 'Most Popular Female Performer'. This award was given by TV Week and Countdown. She won it in both 1979 and 1980.

In August 1980, Christie released more songs. These included "Baby Get Away" and "Switchboard". She also released her second album, Detour.

After this, Christie faced a long illness. This made it hard for her to continue her music career. She decided to retire from singing for a while.

Christie later had a daughter named Christaleah. In the 1990s, she started performing again. She sang with country music bands. In October 1998, Christie married her partner, Mark.

Later that year, she made a special comeback. Michael Gudinski, who owned Mushroom Records, asked her to perform. It was for a big concert celebrating 25 years of Mushroom Records. On 14 November 1998, Christie sang "Goosebumps". She performed in front of a huge crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. This was her final performance. It was released on a video album called Mushroom 25 Live.

In 2006, Christie was asked to join a tour. It was called the Countdown Spectacular tour. But she was not well enough to participate. In March 2008, Christie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She passed away at her home in Western Australia on 12 August 2008.
