Christina Stürmer (born on June 9, 1982) is a famous singer and songwriter from Austria. She grew up in Linz. Christina became well-known after she was the runner-up in the first season of the TV show Starmania.

After the show, she signed with Universal Music. Her first song, "Ich lebe" (which means "I Live"), was a huge hit. It stayed at the top of the Austrian music charts for nine weeks! She then released her first two albums, Freier Fall (2003) and Soll das wirklich alles sein (2004). Both albums went straight to number one in Austria. They also produced many popular songs, including "Mama (Ana Ahabak)" and "Vorbei".

Christina became one of the most successful Austrian artists in German-speaking countries in the mid-2000s. This happened after her album Schwarz Weiss was released internationally. She continued to have many hit albums. These include Lebe lauter (2006), In dieser Stadt (2009), Ich hör auf mein Herz (2013), and Seite an Seite (2016). Many of her songs became popular in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. Some of her number-one hits were "Nie genug" and "Um bei dir zu sein".

Over her 15-year career, Christina Stürmer has sold more than 2 million records. She has also won many awards. These include eleven Amadeus Austrian Music Awards and two ECHO Awards. In 2015, she was part of the German TV show Sing meinen Song – Das Tauschkonzert. In 2017, she was a coach on another German TV show called It Takes 2.

How Christina Stürmer Became a Star

Her Start on Starmania

In 2003, Christina Stürmer took part in the TV show Starmania. She came in second place. Soon after the show, she released her first song, "Ich Lebe" (I Live). This song quickly became number one in Austria. It stayed there for nine weeks in 2003.

Becoming Famous in Austria

After "Ich Lebe," two more very successful songs followed. One was "Geh nicht wenn du kommst" (Don't Go When You Come). The other was an anti-war song called Mama (Ana Ahabak). This title means "Mama, I Love You" in Arabic. The song was written during the war in Iraq. It tells the story from the point of view of a small Iraqi girl. This song also stayed at number one on the Austrian charts for nine weeks.

Her first album, Freier Fall (Free Fall), came out only in Austria in May 2003. It quickly went to the top of the charts and stayed there for weeks. In the fall of 2003, she went on a tour across Austria to promote her first album.

In May 2004, her second album, Soll das wirklich alles sein (Is that really everything?), was released. Again, it was only available in Austria at first. This album was even more successful than Freier Fall. In the fall, she went on the Wirklich alles! (Really Everything!) tour in Austria. A big moment of this tour was her concert at Vienna city hall in November. All 11,000 tickets sold out very quickly. This concert was filmed. It was later released on DVD as Wirklich alles! The DVD also included interviews and a short story about her. During a club tour after the Vienna concert, Christina started performing her own songs. She had written these songs with her band.

Breaking Through in Germany

Around this time, Christina and her managers wanted her to become famous in Germany. The song Vorbei was released in Germany in November 2004. However, it didn't do as well as they hoped. In April 2005, a new version of "Ich Lebe" was released in Germany. This time, the song was a huge success! It reached ninth place on the German charts. Soon after, it climbed to number four.

Her next album, Schwarz Weiss (Black White), came out in June 2005. It was released in Germany and Switzerland. The album reached number three on the German album charts. It stayed in the top twenty for over a year. Most of the songs on this album were already known in Austria. But they were re-recorded to sound more like German rock and pop music. The songs "Engel fliegen Einsam" (Angels Fly Lonely), "Mama (Ana Ahabak)", and "Immer an euch geglaubt" (Always Believed In You) were also re-recorded. They were made to sound more like rock songs.

In late 2005, Christina and her band toured Germany and Switzerland. The Schwarz-Weiss tour had almost 40 concerts and lasted two months. Some concerts had to be moved to bigger venues because so many people wanted tickets. Christina Stürmer and her band had truly become a major music group.

Continued Success

In 2006, Christina and her band released their fourth album, Lebe lauter (Live Louder). This album reached number one in both Germany and Austria. Her songs Nie genug (Never Enough) and Um bei dir zu sein/An Sommertagen (To Be By Your Side/On Summer Days) also reached number one in Austria. "Nie genug" also did well in Germany, reaching number fifteen. Later songs like Ohne Dich (Without You) and Scherbenmeer reached the top ten in Austria.

When Austria hosted the Euro 2008 football tournament with Switzerland, Christina's song Fieber was chosen as the official Austrian song for the event. Her next album, In dieser Stadt, came out in 2009. It included two more popular songs, "Ist mir egal" and "Mehr als perfekt".

Her song "Wir Leben den Moment" was released on September 3, 2010. It was from her album Nahaufnahme (Close-up), which came out in 2010. This album also had other hits like Warum (Why) and Juniherz (Heart of June).

In 2013, her next song Millionen Lichter (Millions of Lights) was released on March 29. After that, her album Ich hör auf mein Herz (I Listen to My Heart) came out on April 19. The music video for "Millionen Lichter" was filmed in California, USA.
