Christina Stürmer (born on June 9, 1982) is a famous singer and songwriter from Austria. She grew up in Linz. Christina became well-known after she was the runner-up in the first season of the TV talent show Starmania. After the show, she signed with Universal Music. Her first song, "Ich lebe" (which means "I Live"), was a huge hit. It stayed at the top of the Austrian Singles Chart for nine weeks!

She then released her first two albums, Freier Fall (2003) and Soll das wirklich alles sein (2004). Both albums quickly reached number one on the Austrian Albums Chart. They also had eight songs that made it into the top ten. These included the number-one hits "Mama (Ana Ahabak)" and "Vorbei".

When her album Schwarz Weiss was released internationally, Christina became one of the most successful Austrian artists in German-speaking countries during the mid-2000s. She continued her success with many popular albums. These included Lebe lauter (2006), In dieser Stadt (2009), Ich hör auf mein Herz (2013), and Seite an Seite (2016). Many songs from these albums became hits in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. Some of her number-one hits were "Nie genug" and "Um bei dir zu sein". Other popular songs included "Mitten unterm Jahr" and "Millionen Lichter".

Over her career, which has lasted more than 15 years, Christina Stürmer has sold over 2 million records. She has also won many awards. These include eleven Amadeus Austrian Music Awards, a Goldene Stimmgabel, and two ECHO Awards. In 2015, Christina took part in the German TV show Sing meinen Song – Das Tauschkonzert. In 2017, she was a coach on the German TV series It Takes 2.

Christina's Music Journey

Starting with Starmania

In 2003, Christina Stürmer took second place in the TV show Starmania. Soon after, she released her first original song, "Ich Lebe" (I Live). This song was very popular. It stayed at the number one spot on the Austrian music charts for nine weeks in 2003.

Early Success in Austria

After "Ich Lebe," two more successful songs followed. These were "Geh nicht wenn du kommst" and "Mama (Ana Ahabak)". "Mama (Ana Ahabak)" means "Mama, I Love You" in Arabic. This song was written during the war in Iraq. It tells the story from the view of a small Iraqi girl. This song also stayed at number one on the Austrian charts for nine weeks.

Her first album, Freier Fall (Free Fall), came out only in Austria in May 2003. It quickly went to the top of the charts and stayed there for weeks. In the fall of 2003, she went on a tour in Austria to support her first album.

In May 2004, her second album, Soll das wirklich alles sein (Is that really everything?), was released. This album was also only available in Austria at first. It was even more successful than Freier Fall. However, the songs released from this album did not sell as well individually. The Wirklich alles! (Really Everything!) tour in Austria followed that fall. A special moment of this tour was a concert in Vienna. All 11,000 tickets for this show sold out very quickly. The concert was filmed and released on DVD. It also included interviews and a short story about her life. During a club tour that started right after the Vienna concert, Christina performed her own songs for the first time. She had written these songs with her band.

Becoming Famous in Germany

Around this time, Christina and her managers wanted her to become famous in Germany. The song Vorbei was released in Germany in November 2004. But it did not become as popular as they hoped. In April 2005, a new version of "Ich Lebe" was released in Germany. This song was a big success! It reached ninth place on the German charts and soon after climbed to number four.

Her album Schwarz Weiss (Black White) was released in June 2005. It came out in Germany and Switzerland. This album reached number three on the German album charts. It stayed in the top twenty for over a year. Most of the songs on this album were already known in Austria. They were re-recorded to fit the popular rock and pop music styles in Germany. The songs released from the album were "Engel fliegen Einsam" (Angels Fly Lonely), "Mama (Ana Ahabak)", and "Immer an euch geglaubt" (Always Believed In You). These songs were also re-recorded to sound more like rock music. In late 2005, Christina and her band toured Germany and Switzerland. The Schwarz-Weiss tour had almost 40 concerts and lasted two months. Some concerts had to be moved to bigger venues because so many people wanted tickets. Christina Stürmer and her band had become a very popular group.

Continued Success in Music

In 2006, Christina and her band released their fourth album, Lebe lauter (Live Louder). This album reached number one in both Germany and Austria. The songs "Nie genug" (Never Enough) and "Um bei dir zu sein/An Sommertagen" (To Be By Your Side/On Summer Days) both reached number one on the Austrian charts. "Nie genug" also reached a good spot at number fifteen in Germany. The next songs after "Um bei dir zu sein/An Sommertagen" were "Ohne Dich" (Without You) and "Scherbenmeer". Both of these songs made it into the top ten in Austria.

When Austria and Switzerland hosted the Euro 2008 football tournament, Christina's song "Fieber" was the official Austrian song for the event. Her album In dieser Stadt came out in 2009. It included two more songs, "Ist mir egal" and "Mehr als perfekt".

Her song "Wir Leben den Moment" was released on September 3, 2010. It was from her album Nahaufnahme (Close-up), which came out in 2010. This album also had other popular songs like Warum (Why) and Juniherz (Heart of June).

In 2013, her next song Millionen Lichter (Millions of Lights) was released on March 29. The album Ich hör auf mein Herz (I Listen to My Heart) followed on April 19. The music video for "Millionen Lichter" was filmed in California, USA.
