Christl Ann Donnelly (born 19 June 1967) is a top scientist who studies how diseases spread. She is a professor at the University of Oxford and Imperial College London. She also helps lead a research center that looks at global infectious diseases. Since 2022, Professor Donnelly has been in charge of the Department of Statistics at the University of Oxford.

Learning and Degrees

Professor Donnelly went to Oberlin College in Ohio, USA. She earned her first degree there in 1988. Later, she studied at Harvard University in Boston. In 1992, she received two advanced degrees. These degrees were in biostatistics, which uses statistics to understand biology and health.

Research and Discoveries

Professor Donnelly's work focuses on using math and statistics to understand how infectious diseases behave. She studies outbreaks of illnesses like coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and Ebola virus disease. Her research helps us learn how to control these diseases.

Studying Disease Spread

She looks at how diseases spread from animals to humans, which are called zoonoses. She also studies diseases that affect farm animals. For example, she has worked on bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), also known as "mad cow disease." She also studied Foot-and-mouth disease in cattle. Her research helps create plans to keep animals healthy and prevent diseases from spreading.

Awards and Recognition

Professor Donnelly has received many important awards for her work. In 2016, she became a Fellow of the Royal Society. This is a very high honor for scientists in the United Kingdom. She also became a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2015. In 2018, she was given the title of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). This award recognized her important contributions to science.

She also won the Suffrage Science award in 2016. This award celebrates women in science.
