Christopher Franke, born on April 6, 1953, is a German musician and composer. He is famous for his electronic music and for creating music for Hollywood movies and TV shows. He studied music at the Berlin Conservatory. There, he was inspired by composers like Karlheinz Stockhausen and John Cage.
Franke was a key member of the music group Tangerine Dream from 1970 to 1987. He was known as the "Sequencer King" because of how he used analog sequencers during live shows. His use of these machines helped shape the band's fast, hypnotic sound. This was especially true for their 1973 album, Phaedra. This album helped define the classic style of the group and influenced the "Berlin School" of electronic music.
After leaving Tangerine Dream, Christopher Franke started working on his own music projects. In 1991, he performed a live concert at the Astoria Theatre in London. This concert was recorded and released as an album in 1993. In the same year, Franke opened a recording studio in West Hollywood. He then began composing music for major films like Universal Soldier, Tarzan and the Lost City, and Night of the Running Man. In 1992, he started his own record label called Sonic Images. This label released soundtracks, electronic music, and world music. He also released Pacific Coast Highway, which was his first solo album after leaving Tangerine Dream.
For television, Franke has composed music for many popular shows. These include the science fiction series Babylon 5 and Pacific Blue.
