How Chronic Tacos Started
Chronic Tacos was created by Daniel Biello and Randy Wyner. They opened their first restaurant in 2002. It was in Newport Beach, California. They wanted to make a place like the local taco shops they loved. But they also wanted customers to be able to customize their food.
In 2005, they opened a second location. This one was in Huntington Beach, California. The company started letting other people open Chronic Tacos restaurants in 2006. This is called franchising. A third location opened in San Clemente, California.
Growing the Business
Chronic Tacos opened its first restaurant in Canada in 2010. In 2012, Michael Mohammed and Randy Wyner took over most of the company. They paused opening new franchised locations until 2015. In 2018, Chronic Tacos opened its first restaurant in Japan.
Food for Everyone
Chronic Tacos wants to offer food for all tastes. In 2016, they added a vegetarian option. This included common fajita vegetables. In 2019, they partnered with Beyond Meat. They started offering Beyond Beef Crumbles. This is a new vegan protein choice.
Fun Challenges
Since 2011, Chronic Tacos has teamed up with Gringo Bandito hot sauce. This hot sauce company is owned by Dexter Holland. They host a fun event called the Gringo Bandito Chronic Tacos Challenge. It is a competitive eating contest. In 2015 and 2017, a famous eater named Takeru Kobayashi set world records there for eating tacos!
