The Church of All Saints is a very old and important church located in Nunney, a village in Somerset, England. It was built a long time ago, in the 12th century (which means the 1100s!). This church is so special that it's a Grade I listed building. This means it's protected by law because of its unique history and architecture.

A Look Back in Time

This church was probably built on the same spot where an even older church once stood. This earlier church might have been from the Saxon or Norman times. When you visit, you can still see some cool things from those ancient days. There's a Saxon cross and a Norman baptismal font. A font is a special basin used for baptisms, which are ceremonies to welcome people into the Christian faith.

For many years, the main part of the church, called the nave, had a special roof. This roof was built in the 15th century and looked like a barrel, so it was called a barrel vault. Sadly, the wood in this old roof started to rot. Because of this, it had to be taken down in 1957. For a while, a temporary roof was put in place and hidden by a false ceiling. But don't worry! There are now plans to build a brand new roof, and people are raising money to make it happen.

Important People Buried Here

Many important people from Nunney's past are buried at All Saints' Church. This includes Sir John Delamare and other lords who used to live in the nearby Nunney Castle. It's a place where history truly comes alive!

The church is part of the Church of England. It serves the local community of Nunney as part of a larger group of churches in the area.
