The Church of St George in Bolton is a special old building. It is located in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. This church is no longer used for regular church services. Instead, it is now a busy crafts centre where people can create and learn.

The building was finished in 1796. It was later recognized as a very important historical building on April 26, 1974. This means it has a special "Grade II*" listing, showing its importance. In 1907, some parts of the church, like a small area near the altar called a chancel, were added or rebuilt by an architect named James Simpson. The church stopped being used for services in 1975.

The Amazing Journey of the Bells

The Church of St George once had a set of special bells. These bells were made in 1806 by a company called John Rudhall. They were created to celebrate a big victory for Britain. This was when Admiral Nelson won the Battle of Trafalgar at sea.

In 1976, after the church closed, the bells were going to be sold for scrap metal. But then, a church group from Australia, the Anglican Diocese of Wangaratta, bought them. In 1977, the bells were shipped all the way to Victoria, Australia.

It took some time to build a new tower for the bells in Australia. Finally, in 1987, the bells were rung for the first time in their new home. Today, these bells are very special. They are the oldest "complete" set of bells in Australia.
