Ciara Renée Harper (born October 19, 1990) is an American actress and musician. She is famous for her roles in Broadway musicals. These include playing The Witch in Big Fish and the Leading Player in Pippin. She also starred as Jenna in Waitress and Elsa in Frozen.
Ciara Renée also played Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. This musical was performed at the Paper Mill Playhouse and La Jolla Playhouse. In 2015, she appeared as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl on the TV shows Arrow and The Flash. She then became a main character in the first season of DC's Legends of Tomorrow in 2016.

Early Life and Education
Ciara Renée was born and grew up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She went to Central Dauphin East High School. In 2013, she graduated from Baldwin Wallace University. She earned a degree in Music Theatre.
Her Acting Journey
Starting on Broadway
In September 2013, Ciara Renée made her first appearance on Broadway. She played The Witch in the musical Big Fish at the Neil Simon Theatre. Before this, she worked on a practice version of Bull Durham.
In February 2014, she joined the musical Pippin. She took over the role of the Leading Player. Later that year, in the fall of 2014, she was a guest star on the TV show Law & Order: SVU on NBC.
Playing Esmeralda
From March 15 to April 5, 2015, Renée played Esmeralda. This was in the musical The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The musical was based on the Victor Hugo novel and the Disney animated movie. It was performed at the Paper Mill Playhouse and La Jolla Playhouse. The Daily News newspaper said her performance was "earthy and lovely."
Becoming Hawkgirl
In March 2015, it was announced that Renée would play Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl. This was for The CW's new TV show DC's Legends of Tomorrow. This show is part of the DC Comics universe.
She first appeared as Hawkgirl in the final episode of The Flash on May 20, 2015. She then appeared in four episodes of Arrow that same year. DC's Legends of Tomorrow started in January 2016, with her as a main character.
Other Stage Roles
In 2016, Renée played Susan in an Off-Broadway show called Tick, Tick... Boom!. This musical was written by Jonathan Larson. The show ran from October 20 to December 18.
In the summer of 2017, she played Mary Magdalene in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar. This show by Andrew Lloyd Webber was performed at The Muny in St. Louis, Missouri.
On January 15, 2020, it was announced that Renée would return to Broadway. She was set to play Elsa in Frozen starting February 18. However, Broadway theaters closed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney later said that Frozen would not reopen after the lockdown.
Renée took over the role of Jenna in the Broadway musical Waitress on November 25, 2021. She performed alongside Joshua Henry.
