Cibao is a small area, called a barrio, located in the municipality of San Sebastián, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 1,224 people lived there. It's a part of Puerto Rico, which is a territory of the United States.

History of Cibao

How Cibao Became Part of the U.S.

Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States after the Spanish–American War in 1898. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Before this, Puerto Rico was controlled by Spain.

After the war, the United States government took a count of all the people. This count is called a census. In 1899, the census showed that Cibao and a nearby area called Guajataca had a combined population of 1,169 people.
