Cintrona's Story
A Look Back: History
Puerto Rico used to be controlled by Spain. After a war between Spain and the United States, called the Spanish–American War, Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States in 1898. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
In 1899, the United States Department of War counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. They found that 1,132 people lived in Cintrona barrio at that time.
