How the School Started
City Montessori School (CMS) began in 1959. It was started by Jagdish Gandhi and his wife, Dr. Bharti Gandhi. They started it in just one room at their home in Lucknow.
The school began with only five students and a small amount of money. The first campus, called the Station Road Branch, is still an important part of the school's history.
In 2002, CMS won the UNESCO Prize for Peace Education. This award was for teaching students about global unity and good values. The school also received an award from the Dalai Lama for helping to create peace and harmony.

City Montessori School (CMS) has been in the news for its school activities and social work. In 2013, CMS became a center for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) in Uttar Pradesh. This test is important for students who want to go to universities in the U.S.
CMS has also worked to promote peace. For example, after some events in 1992, the school helped bring people together. It also started a project for Indian and Pakistani students to become pen pals.
