"Civil Wars" is the name for the third and fourth episodes of the second season of the animated TV show The Legend of Korra. Part 1 first aired on September 20, 2013, and Part 2 aired on September 27, 2013, in the United States. The episodes were written by one of the show's creators, Michael Dante DiMartino. These two episodes tell a story about a big conflict brewing between the Northern and Southern Water Tribes. Avatar Korra tries her best to bring peace, but it's a tough challenge!
The Water Tribe Conflict
The Southern Water Tribe is upset because soldiers from the Northern Water Tribe have come into their villages and even their palace. They feel like their home is being taken over. Avatar Korra tries to make things better between the two tribes. She wants them to understand each other and stop fighting. But will she be able to keep order, or will everything turn into a big mess?
Part One: Rising Tensions
The Southern Water Tribe feels like the Northern Water Tribe is taking over. Unalaq, Korra's uncle, explains to Korra that he wants to protect a special spirit portal in the South. He also wants Korra to open another portal in the North.
Meanwhile, a rich businessman named Varrick is losing money because of Unalaq's actions. So, Varrick starts to encourage the Southern people to rebel. Korra tries to keep the peace, but it's very difficult. She even stops some Southern rebels from trying to capture Unalaq.
Korra also spends time with her mother and father, trying to make up after some disagreements. But then, Unalaq arrives and has Korra's parents arrested!
At the same time, Bolin is having a tough time with his girlfriend, Eska. She is very bossy, and Bolin is scared to break up with her. Elsewhere, at the Southern Air Temple, Ikki runs away. Her siblings, Jinora and Meelo, had been teasing her. Tenzin, Kya, and Bumi go looking for her. While searching, they start arguing about their childhood memories with their father, Avatar Aang.
Part Two: Korra Fights Back
Korra's father, Tonraq, is accused of acting against his own tribe and is sentenced to prison for life. Korra soon finds out that Unalaq planned the whole trial. He also planned Tonraq's earlier banishment (being sent away from his home) to get rid of him. Unalaq wanted to remove anyone who might challenge his power.
With help from her friends and Varrick, Korra breaks her father and other Southern rebels out of prison. She also saves Bolin from being forced to marry Eska, who is very angry. Korra promises to get help from the United Republic to support the Southern rebellion.
Back at the Southern Air Temple, Ikki and Tenzin both make up with their siblings. They learn to understand each other better.
