The Christie Family History
Where Did the Name Christie Come From?
The name Christie is a shorter version of names like Christian or Christopher. People with the Christie name were found in areas like Fife and Stirlingshire in Scotland a long time ago. Some people believe the Christie family is a part of the Clan Farquharson.
Another idea is that the name came from the descendants of Christianus. He was a younger son of Alwyn II, who was one of the first Earls of Lennox. Some historians, like Anderson, found four different Christie family symbols (coats of arms) in different parts of Scotland. These places included Fife, Mid-Lothian, Aberdeen, and Galloway.
There's also a thought that the name might come from a Danish word, "cruset," meaning "cup." A Christie family on the Isle of Man even said they were descendants of the Danes.
Important People in Christie History
Anderson also reported that the last known leader of the Christie family was Sir Archibald Christie. He was in charge of Stirling Castle for a time and passed away in 1847.
The Christy family first appeared in official records in Edinburghshire. They were noted as an old family in that area even before the year 1100. The very first Christy family coat of arms was recorded between the 12th and 15th centuries. Old writings show that the important Christy family can trace their family roots back to the ancient Pictish people of Scotland.
