History of Clark Mills
The community of Clark Mills gets its name from an important business. This business was called the Clark Mills Company. It was a textile mill, which is a factory that makes cloth. The mill was built on Oriskany Creek.
Founders of the Mill
The Clark Mills Company was started around 1845. It was founded by three members of the Clark family: Ralph, Ammi, and Erastus Clark. Their family business grew and was very successful for many years.
Changes and Closure
Later, in 1891, the company's name changed. It became known as the Hind & Harrison Plush Co. This company continued to operate for a long time. However, it eventually closed down in 1949.
Historic Church
A special building in Clark Mills is St. Mark's Church. This church is considered very important historically. In 1996, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This list includes places that are important to the history of the United States.
