Where is Clarysville Located?
Clarysville is found in western Maryland. It sits along U.S. Route 40 Alternate. This road is important for traveling in the area. The town of Frostburg is about 2 miles (3.2 km) to the west. The larger city of Cumberland is about 7 miles (11 km) to the east. Both are along Route 40 Alternate.
The Historic Clarysville Inn
One of the most well-known parts of Clarysville's history is the Clarysville Inn. This old building was built in 1807. It was famous in the region for many years.
The Inn During the Civil War
During the American Civil War, the Clarysville Inn played an important role. It was used as a military hospital. Wounded soldiers from the war were brought there for treatment and care. Sadly, the historic inn burned down in 1999.
Hoffman Drainage Tunnel
Near Clarysville, you can find the exit of the Hoffman drainage tunnel. This tunnel was built to help drain water from several coal mines in the area. It was an important part of the mining operations.
