How He Played
Claudio Sala was known as "il poeta del gol," which means "the goal poet" in Italian. He was usually a winger, playing on the sides of the field to attack. But he was also very versatile. He could play as an attacking midfielder, helping to create chances from behind the main strikers. Sometimes, he even played as a main striker or a supporting striker.
Many people think he was one of Italy's best wingers ever. He was very fast and strong. He was also a creative player who was excellent at setting up goals for his teammates. Sala had great technical skills with the ball. He could pass the ball very accurately and send in great crosses (balls into the penalty area). This made him a very effective playmaker, someone who helps create scoring opportunities.
He could use both his feet well, which meant he could attack from either the left or right side of the field. He was famous for his ability to dribble past opponents. He would then deliver the ball into the penalty area from the side of the field for his teammates to score.
