The creek then flows until it joins with Kinderhook Creek. When these two creeks meet, they form a larger stream called Stockport Creek in the town of Stockport.
History of Claverack Creek
Long ago, Native American tribes lived along Claverack Creek. The Mahican tribe had special names for different parts of the creek. The lower part of the creek was known as Twastawekak. You might also see this name written as To-was-ta-we-kak or Twastaweekak. The upper part of the creek had a different name, Ska-an-kook or Skaanpook. These names show how important the creek was to the people who lived there first.
